2010 Roundup- Hits and Flops

teluguveera.com is bringing you the hits and flops of 2010.
To start up, the Telugu Film Industry has almost witnessed 115 straight Telugu films (more than 150 including dubbed films) in 2010. However, it has hardly single digit hits, few average to above average films and many disasters. Most awaited films of the year sank at the Box-Office. The success percentage of films has dipped down drastically this year with a series of big flops and the reports says that Tollywood has approximately lost 200 Crores at the Box-Office. Here is our analysis, Take a look!
2010 Hit Flicks
To be frank, Tollywood has not had its range of hits this year. Bala Krishna’s Simha is the only straight noteworthy hit to be talked of. The Yuvaratna received the much needed hit at the right time in the form of ‘Simha’ after many long years. The fans were quite happy to see their star back in form and the film had good collections at Box-Office.
Jr.NTR too was flying high this year with two decent hits,Adhurs and Brindavanam.Prabhas and director Karunakaran came up with a typical youthful love story Darlingthat was liked by the audience. Director Rajamouli has earned yet another feather in his cap with Maryada Ramanna in 2010. Unlike his earlier films, Maryada Ramanna has no star heroes and not a mega budget too, but had a new plot and good screenplay.
Unfortunate Disasters:
The list of debacles, this year is too big. Industry had high expectations on these, but the biggies failed with these complete no-shows at the Box-Office. Nagarjuna starrerKediAllu Arjun starrer VaruduDil Raju-Varun Sandesh starrer Maro Charitra,Siddharth starrer BavaMahesh starrer KhalejaRam Charan’s Orange failed badly and left tears for producers and distributors. Big names, high expectations, heavy budgets and much hype couldn’t save these films in making steady collections for the very first week too.
Low Budget Winners:
The big-budget failures have turned out as a blessing to medium budget and low budgets as the crowds showed their attention towards these films. Allari Naresh has created a niche for himself in the last couple of years. He is said to be one of the most bankable stars of all-time. His Betting BangarrajuKatti Kanta Rao brought good profits at B-O. The Tamil remake, Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu turned out as unexpected success.
Critically-Acclaimed Films
Few films may not start up with great collections but they will indeed manage to gather much appreciation from the critics as well as the paying audience. Deva Katta- Sharwanand’s Prasthanam, Sharwanand starrer Andhari Bhandhuvaya, multi-starrer flick Vedam are such films. Sekhar kammula made a good attempt with Leader which showed the dark reality of modern day politics.
Prasthanam and Andhari Bhandhuvaya might have done well if the producers have concentrated on more publicity.
Prasthanam was a political backdrop film with the shades of human emotions. The lust and greed for power will lead a man to any extremity is the concept behind the film. Sai Kumar has put in riveting performance beside Sharwanad.
Chandra Siddharth of ‘Aa Naluguru’ fame came up with yet another inspiring and heart touching film Andhari Banduvayya. This strong script speaks about the human values and morals that reached to many hearts
These critically praised films had decent run at B-O.
2010 Lucky Actors/ Average Scorers:
Apart from other star heroes, Manchu Manoj is one of the luckiest actors of 2010 who came up with three films. He received success with Bindaas and Jhummandi Nadamand Vedam turned out above average. Naga Chaitanya scored his first hit withGautham Menon’s romantic entertainer Ye Maya Chesave. Comedian turned hero,Sunil received a good success by proving his mettle with Maryada Ramanna. Kajal Agarwal bagged two hits into her account this year with Darling and Brindavanam
Clicked Debutants
Amidst of many debutant ladies and many top heroines, Samantha needs a special mention this year. The gorgeous lady has become an overnight star with her debut flick and turned as heartthrob to many youngsters. Promising debutants Rana Daggubati, Richa Gangopadhyay and Priya Anand (Telugu) gave notable performances in Sekhar Kammula’s political drama Leader. Deeksha Seth, the former Miss India finalist, managed well with her performance in Vedam.
Dubbed Hits:
Dubbed flicks occupied a special place in 2010. Infact, the Telugu Film Industry faced heavy competition with Tamil dubbed films. It has been raining hits from Kollywood this year with Rajini Kanth’s RoboKamal’s Manmadha BanamKarthi’s AwaraSuriya’sYamudu etc.  Rajini Kanth, Shankar’s Magnum opus, Robo occupied tollywood’s throne this year, by collecting 47 crores at B-O. Looks like few roles are made only for Rajini, he just created magic on-screen as Robo. Robo has set a new benchmark for the special effects on the Indian screens.  On the other hand, Rakta Charitra-1 (dubbed version from Hindi) impressed audience.
Here is the list of the films released with high expectations in 2010

Well, let’s hope the industry analyses on what went wrong and bounces back with hits in 2011.2010 remained as a worst year that Tollywood has ever faced. The industry failed to set the cash registers ringing despite huge budget outings and top star casts. 2010 gave a harsh lesson to Tollywood film-makers that a film becomes success only if it has a strong content irrespective of the budget they pump in.

Buzz about the original ‘Nagavalli’!

Victory Venkatesh’s upcoming film, ‘Nagavalli’ is creating waves with its interesting logo, trailers and freshly, with its songs. The whole unit of ‘Nagavalli’ gave the outline of the story that the film revolves around five women and they have stated that, only in the climax you will come to know the original ‘Nagavalli’ of the film.
Who is the original ‘Nagavalli’ out of Anushka, Shradda Das, Kamalini Mukerjee, Richa Gangopadhyaya and Poonam Kaur is the million dollar question? However for people who can’t wait for the film to be released, here’s the buzz of original ‘Nagavalli’ making rounds.
Anushka is portraying the role of ‘Nagavalli’ in the film, who is the dancer in the court for King Venkatesh four hundred years ago. Kamalinee Mukherjee will be seen as a dance teacher while Poonam Kaur in the supporting role. So, excluding the above three actresses, it must be between Richa Gangopadhyay and Shradda Das. As per the buzz, it is Shradda Das who will be chased by Nagavalli and her soul gets into Shradda’s body. The actress is said to have given a great performance in the climax part like Jyothika in Chandramukhi.

Tabu finds her new companion!

Actress Tabu seems to have found her new companion. The actress is being graced at several places with the Bollywood director, Lovely Singh in the last couple of weeks. The director is one among the invitees of her Diwali bash apart from her close friends and family.
Bollywood is at buzz that these both are hanging out together. Well, the other news is that Lovely Singh who is planning to direct ad films is trying to cast this National Award winning actress by leaving all the younger actresses of today. Lovely happens to be the close friend of Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor too.
What might be the reason behind this is a million dollar question!

Deeksha Seth, the most Wanted lady?

Deeksha Seth, the former Miss India finalist, who made her presence in Vedam with a small role, has grabbed the attention of many. She later bagged the roles in Mirapakaya and Wanted.
The interesting news is both these films Mirapakaya and Wanted are hitting the big-screens in January. Mirapakaya opposite Ravi Teja is slated for a big release world-wide tomorrow and Wanted with Gopichand is gearing up for its release on 21st January.
Deeksha’s fate in Tollywood will rely on the result of these two flicks. However, Tollywood is at buzz that Deeksha has already bagged two more big projects, which are yet to be announced officially. So, this Wanted heroine almost became the most wanted heroine of Tollywood.

Mahesh walks out of ‘3-Idiots’ remake!

The news of ‘3-Idiots’ remake in Telugu and Tamil versions are making rounds in web media and all the popular TV channels from past few weeks. Earlier, there was news that Shankar wields the megaphone of this big-budget in both the versions and Mahesh and Vijay are roped in for Telugu and Tamil versions respectively.
For starters, the remake of ‘3-Idiots’ was earlier supposed to start its shoot from Decemeber. However, Mahesh has reported that there is a clash of dates between ‘Dookudu’ and ‘3-Idiots’. The actor initially allocated his December diary to Srinu Vaitla’s ‘Dookudu’.  So, the speculations are making rounds that Mahesh is out of this remake. On the other hand, there is also news that Vijay who has been roped in for the Tamil Version also had walked out of the project for his own other reasons.
Well, before coming into our own conclusions, let’s wait for the official announcement of the film’s status from the producers.

Can Anushka sustain in top position?

Anushka Shetty is certainly the top actresses of Tollywood with the right blend of beauty and acting skills. Though the actress had several flop films in her initial career, it was ‘Arundhati’ and ‘Vedam’ films that showcased her talent and made her reach the top position.
But there is always a growing competition among the heroines in Tollywood. Apart from Anushka, other hot ladies of Tollywood, Ileana, Kajal Agarwal, Samantha and Tapsee are fighting for the top position by bagging projects opposite biggies.
Though Anushka is in the top position, she cannot act opposite today’s young heroes like Jr.NTR, Ram Charan, Naga Chaitanya, Allu Arjun, Ram etc.. since the actress looks quite elder to them. Instead she is perfect match to senior heroes Venkatesh, Bala Krishna, Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja and goes well with Prabhas, Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh too.
With senior heroes hardly signing one or two films per year, the chances for Anushka might decline in the coming years. While her competitive actresses of Tollywood are less than 25 years, Anushka has recently crossed 28 which is another threatening factor for the lady. On the other hand, the Kollywood chances too are moving away as most of the leading heroes of Kollywood are too short when compared to her height. Her plus point of beauty has worked negative to the lady in Kollywood.
Her recent films in the second half of 2010, Khaleja with Mahesh Babu failed at the Box-Office and the latest release Nagavalli too is receiving below average talk. Many who saw Nagavalli film, opined that Anushka looked as an aged lady in the film and she needs to concentrate more on her beauty. ‘Ragada’ film is yet to hit the silver screens and we can analyze her performance in the film only after its release.
With many such issues, let’s wait to see how long the lady of luck smiles at Anushka!

Chandrababu continues fast in NIMS

Hyderabad, Dec 20: The Telugu Desam party president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was forcibly taken to the NIMS Hospital following deterioration of his health condition on the fourth day of his indefinite fast on Monday, has declared that he would continue his fast in the hospital. He said he would not give it up, until he received a clear assurance from the government on his demands on the problems of the farmers.

Ms Bhuvaneswari, Naidu’s wife visited him in the hospital on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, Mr Naidu’s son, Mr Lokesh Naidu, the party MLC, Mr Rajendra Prasad, who were injured in the police action were also admitted to the NIMS Hospital.

The Health Minister, Mr D L Ravindra Reddy, also visited Mr Chandrababu Naidu in the hospital and enquired doctors about the condition of the former chief minister. He requested Mr Naidu to take glucose and medicines in view of his health condition.

Mr Naidu has refused to take medicines. He told the minister that he would continue his fast until the government solved the farmers’ problems.

Later, the TDP leaders told the media that the minister came only to enquire about Mr Naidu’s health and had not brought any proposal from the government.

Prepared for any consequence
Mr Naidu, in another open letter to the farmers, stated that he was prepared for any consequences to resolve the crisis in which the farmers were in. He said that he had to resort to fast, as there was no other option for him to make the government respond to the farmers’ problems. He said it was unwise on the part of the government to think that it could quell people’s movements with lathis and force.

He also clarified that he would not give up his fast despite the lathi-charge and shifting forcefully to the hospital. He said his party was always with the farmers. Stating that this fight was only a beginning, he said the agitation would be further intensified. He has thanked the political parties that supported him and farmers and their leaders who participated in the agitation he had launched.

Naidu services inevitable for nation: Rosaiah

Hyderabad, Dec 20: Stating that the services of the Telugu Desam party president, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, to the country were indispensable, the former chief minister, Mr Konijeti Rosaiah, has said that the State government had a bounden duty to protect his precious life.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Moday about the disruption of former chief minister’s indefinite hunger strike, his arrest and forcibly shifting him to the NIMS hospital, Mr Rosaiah said that no government would remain a silent spectator if Mr Naidu wants to sacrifice his life for the cause of the farmers. He also said that if there were any problems, they could be discussed and solved across the table, he added.

Meanwhile, the Union Mnister of State for Defence, Mr Pallam Raju, has admitted that the farmers in the State suffered huge losses and urged Mr Chandrababu Naidu to give up his fast as the Centre and State governments have responded immediately.

No conspiracy behind CBN arrest: Sabitha

Hyderabad, Dec 20: The Home Minister, Ms P Sabitha Indra Reddy, on here Monday made it clear that there was no political conspiracy and revenge-taking motive behind the arrest and shifting of the fasting Leader of Opposition, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, to the NIMS hospital.

Speaking to mediapersons at Secretariat, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy explained that after 7.30 pm on Sunday, a team of doctors examined the fasting leader and said that his heath condition was deteriorating. The police officials of the rank of DCP met Mr Naidu for five times and requested him to cooperate and withdraw his hunger strike. First of all, the police officials evinced no interest to take an initiative in the matter. The team of doctors headed by the Director of Heath also requested the fasting leader to call off his hunger strike keeping in view his health condition, but the fasting leader bluntly rejected the suggestions. The government, which had moral responsibility to take care of the Leader of Opposition was forced to arrest of Mr Naidu and shifting him to the hospital. She also made it clear that police behaved most respectfully towards Mr Naidu while they took him into custody in the early hours of Monday. If there was any fault while arresting Mr Naidu, the government was ready to take action against the guilty, she added.

Stating that elaborate security and protection arrangements were made at the venue of hunger strike of Mr Naidu, who was under Z+ security cover, the Home Minister said that two DCPs, three ACPs, 10 Inspectors and 70 SIs and constables were deployed at the New MLA quarters for security purpose.

Claiming that the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy has tried to instill confidence in distressed farmers by touring the rain-hit districts and announcing a good package to them, she felt that the Opposition parties too have equal responsibility to see that the farmers are not lost confidence.

“If he was sincere on the welfare of the farmers, Mr Naidu should withdraw his hunger strike and cooperate with the government and ensure that the benefits of announced package reached every farmer in the rain-hit areas. Similarly, I also appeal to the functionaries of Opposition parties to extend cooperation in this regard”, the Home Minister said.

She also observed that though the government may not reimburse total loss suffered by the farmers, it has announced best package to extend maximum benefits to the distressed farmers. She pointed out that the Congress government responded immediately whenever the farmers faced problems in the last six years.

The Home Minister opined that the farmers were well aware how Naidu’s government had come out with relief package when farmers faced losses due to natural calamities.

Replying to question, she said that a GO was under preparation in the Law Department for withdrawal of 565 cases against the Telangana and United Andhra agitators as announced in the Legislative Assembly. She also reiterated that she would seek an explanation from the Director General of Police (DGP) for his recent comments.

With force, Naidu Arrested and shifted to NIMS

Hyderabad, Dec 20: With force Chandrababu Naidu was arrested and shifted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) after his health condition deteriorated.

It was a heavy drama, Police have stratergically started moved TDP supporters and leaders away from CBN.First they arrested TDP MLA Revanth Reddy, then CBN's son Lokesh was removed from Babu. Later Police lifted Babu and took him to NIMS hospital though CBN resisted.

Mr. Naidu's blood sugar level dropped to 61 mg/dl and ketone bodies concentration increased forcing the Government to act as there was danger of ‘hypoglycaemia' and ‘ketoacidosis' setting in leading to impairment of vital organs.

He was to be shifted by midnight but the police which was in full strength at the New MLA Quarters where he had been fasting for the last three days, was waiting for the right time to initiate action fearing resistance from TDP cadre. After getting wind of the impending police action, TDP legislators and workers surrounded Mr. Naidu on the dais. They kept chanting slogans deriding the Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and Congress for not doing anything for the farmers and not allowing Mr. Naidu to continue the fast.

Tension prevailed owing to heavy police bandobust outside the quarters and slogan shouting cadre inside. Around 10 p.m. police closed the gates of the MLA Quarters and did not allow anyone to enter the premises for over an hour. On the other hand, arrangements were made at NIMS to receive Mr. Naidu.

TDP sources indicated that even if Mr. Naidu was shifted to NIMS, he would continue the fast there and consider the option of calling for a bandh tomorrow.

Though Mr. Naidu looked normal on Sunday morning even practising yoga, there was a steady decline in his condition by evening. At midnight he looked pale and dazed and went to the toilet with help. But he developed a bit of uneasiness as the day progressed and was lying down most of the day. A team of senior doctors examined him and after seeing test reports expressed concern over the falling blood sugar level which could impact the functioning of liver, kidney and heart if the fast continued.

Jr NTR challenging Mahesh Babu

Pic: Jr NTR in Mahesh's house

We have double strong medicine for your Headache and Body pains. Earlier we had Mahesh Babu working as brand ambassador promoting 'Amrutanjan' in Andhra Pradesh. Now, Jr NTR wishes to end the monopoly of Mahesh in this Painful ad world and is already left to Mumbai for shooting of 'Zandu Balm' signing the agreement with Zandu Pharma.

Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun are major names that we regularly come often in promotional campaigns of their respective products endorsed. Jr NTR has also joined the race of side income and as per early calculations Zandu Pharma offered a lavish remuneration package for NTR for his first commitment. Competition between young heroes isn't now limited to cinema and we will have the same contest in ad world too. Jr NTR is straight away setting the targets to end the monopolized ad market.
