India’s (and Hyderabad’s) IT industries under threat from China
KPMG’s recent survey on outsourcing trends should give our politicians sleepless nights. KPMG had said China had overtaken India as the primary destination of outsourcing and shared services for Asia-Pacific companies after netting business to the tune of $20 billion. In a bid to promote the outsourcing industry China has announced that it will not levy operating taxes on offshore service outsourcing business in 21 of its key cities till December 31, 2013. China has identified 21 cities as hotspots for outsourcing. The list has been drawn in parallel with 21 Indian cities and towns, in which Hyderabad is also included. It is time that A.P’s IT ministry gets its act together and approaches NASSCOM to chalk out a viable strategy to counter China and provide a favorable investment climate to attract Companies to Hyderabad. Otherwise the dragon can deliver a really crippling blow to the state’s I T industry
